EVA BAUMGARTNER, percussionist, utilizes found
objects from industry and nature in combination with traditional percussion
instruments to create a unique sound palette for improvisation. She studied
percussion with William Winant and piano with Julie Steinberg at Mills College
where she earned her MFA. While at Mills she performed the works of many
visiting composers such as Frederic Rzewski, James Tenney, and Alvin Curran.
She is an active performer of works by
the emerging school of Bay Area composers (including Scott Rosenberg, Jeffrey
Lucas, and Jonathan Mitchell) and has been involved in many collaborative
projects with composers and artists in such varied fields as dance, film,
sculpture, and instrument-building. She is currently a member of Circular
Firing Squad (with Xopher Davidson, David Kwan, and Tim Walters) and Vorticella
(with Krystyna Bobrowski, Erin Espeland, and Brenda Hutchinson). |
