K. ATCHLEY composes in the tradition of North
American Experimental Music and has performed as a soloist and with various
ensembles throughout the United States. He is a graduate of the Center for
Contemporary Music at Mills College where he studied with Robert Ashley,
David Behrman, and Gordon Mumma. Atchley incorporates melodic and harmonic
elements, as well as, formalist methods in his compositions and his music
is firmly rooted in 20th century electronic sound/noise experimentalism.
He currently presents a concert length set of works for solo guitar and
electronics in which he approaches the guitar as one element (transducer
and sound source) within a larger electro-acoustic environment.
From 1978-1992 K. Atchley developed new operatic forms that developed
a range of subjects including occult themes, chemical modification ofconsciousness,
and ontology. Two of his libretti are featured in the book the guests go
in to supper. The premiere issue of the Leonardo Music Journal featured
an article concerning his operatic works as well as a selection on the accompanying
CD.
